Every year at this time we celebrate the arrival of the blossoms on our fruit trees, days with more sunshine and the beloved honey bees that are our precious little partners in the cycle of turning those flowers into fruit. It’s a time when we stop to take in the beauty of the greenery in the orchards and fields that are a result of a healthy season of rainfall. It’s a time of renewal for our fruit trees, revival for the earth and revitalization in our lives.
About those little honey bees: Our longtime beekeeper, Mr. Bibe just brought in the bee boxes that are tucked away in our orchards. They started by honing in on the Almond orchards, then the Apricots and now our Regenerative Organic Certified Prune orchard. And they’re just getting started! It’s a miracle of nature that they know when to go to each specific orchard to get down to their busy, buzzy business: Pollinating, that is!

We refer to them as our partners because we each have a role to carry out: We count on them to pollinate the trees so they may produce beautiful, healthful fruits and they count on us to protect them and give them a happy place to do their work. We do our part by giving them a habitat in cover crops that grow throughout our orchards. These cover crops look like weeds that have been allowed to grow, but in reality we foster the growth of these plants that nurture the bees, attract other beneficial insects, feed crucial nutrients into the soil and help maintain moisture from the precious rains. We also help protect them by spreading the word about their goodness. You can help protect the populations of these hard working creatures by letting them live. That’s right. If one happens to land on you, just stay calm and gently swoosh them away. It’s highly unlikely you’ll be stung. By letting them live, they can go on to pollinate those blossoms. They also give us gifts by creating honeycomb and honey beeswax, pollen and a host of other natural and valuable byproducts that make our lives better. So bee kind to the bees and let them carry out their healthful mission.
About those Regenerative Organic Prunes, those honey bees are buzzing around in that orchard that our family has been farming since 1943. We’ve been growing these Prunes with painstaking attention to actively healing the earth through soil care and fair employment practices. We earned “ROC” designation on these Prunes just this past year and while we’ve always been proud of them, we’re prouder than ever to be part of making this earth a better place to live through growing these beautiful, nutritious fruits.
We encourage you to embark on your own season of renewal by supporting farmers who are coming online with incorporating regenerative practices. It can be your part of making the earth better.
